Moving house recently has given me the chance to rebuild my studio in the style that I’d secretly wanted all along. Instead of a great-sounding – but ultimately very cramped – booth at the other end of the house from my editing workstation, I now have enough space to build the whole thing in one room.
Having a whole room dedicated to my studio has meant I’ve now got space for a full rack of equipment, including a dedicated Telephone Balance Unit (sometimes called a “Telephone Hybrid” or “Phone Patch”).
ISDN and Source-Connect are still available for studios around the world to use, but end clients working with me from their offices (or homes, hotel rooms or cars, even…) have never been able to dial in and listen in to the session until now, and in the case of a complex project that can be really handy.
Many of my clients still prefer to give me a script and leave me to record, edit and deliver it by myself, but the Phone Patch enables anyone to call in from a standard phone and direct the session if they want to – or need to. My inclusive call package also allows me to call out to almost forty international destinations at no cost, so in many cases you won’t even need to pay for the call.
So now the choice is yours. “Lines are open – and operators are standing by!”
PS – The handset in the picture isn’t a mock-up: it’s the “Pokia retro mobile phone handset”, and it’s available here…
