Mike Cooper narrates “Kent Past” DVD for Timereel Studios

Kent Past DVD boxTimereel Studios have just released some additions to their lineup of local history DVDs, including a “Kent Past” documentary narrated by London-based, British voiceover artist Mike Cooper.

Running for 60 minutes, the programme lets viewers discover how life changed in the “Garden of England” across half a century and relive some rare scenes from the county’s history – including holidays at Margate, Ramsgate and Folkestone; the miners’ strike of 1960; the Chatham Dockyards and fishing crews at Whitstable; and Winston Churchill’s historic visit to the port town of Dover.

Timereel’s local interest DVDs are all made using original archive film, some of which comes from the ITN Archive. The documentary was produced in-house, while Mike’s narration was recorded at his own studio in London. To save on studio costs for the voiceover recording, the script was supplied by email and an edited, ready-to-use voiceover track was then delivered over the internet as a high quality 48KHz WAV file for the editor to drop into the programme – a method increasingly used by producers looking for a more cost-effective solution to the expense of recording documentary voiceover narration.

Here’s a clip from the programme:
